Protect the host against strange agents is the main function of the immune system. Thus the innate immunity is the first line of defensemainly through physical and chemical barriers, and the phagocytosis mediated by the polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN). The neonates are considered immunologically immature, which makes them more susceptible to pathogenic microorganism. One of the variations that seem to increment the risk of bacterial infections is the abnormality of the phagocytic system, which can lead to a deficiency in the ability of the PMN to phagocytose and kill microorganisms. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the reference value of the micro-technique of phagocytosis and intracellular death of Candida albicans, is a simple and effective technique that can be used to evaluate the phagocytic function since asses the phagocytic index of each PMN and percentage of intracellular death of phagocytized Candida. We analyzed cord blood samples from fifty one healthy neonates. The index of phagocytosis found was 2.64 (SD 0.51) (1.71 to 3.77) and median of percentage of intracellular death was 20% with P25 (18%), P75 (23%), ( 13 to 38%). The reference value using the same technique for adults are: phagocytosis index 2.7 (2.03-3.92) and percentage of intracellular death 31.31% (21-39%). - Anatomical, Physiological and Embryological Description of Trigeminal Nerve in the Conceptual Framework of Neural Therapy, as Common Substrate Interference Field

Neural therapy, as a complex medical system, is characterized by the integral approach of the organism whose dynamic is framed by the leading role of the nervous system. An important aspect of this medical system is how it demands a penetrating general vision that involves the trigeminal nerve as a source of interference fields. The fifth cranial nerve or trigeminal nerve is a nerve with mixed functions distributed in the facial and cranial region that presents interconnections with multiple neural structures. From Pavlov’s principles, the different discoveries about brain plasticity, and the neural therapy conceptual framework, this paper seeks to describe, from the standpoint of anatomy and physiology, the relationship of the trigeminal nerve with a variety of neural structures, resulting in other clinical correlations and therapeutic possibilities. - Water Quality of Dental Units

Water is a main source of contamination in dental patients, classified into two classes: the first from the primary water supply, (ie,public water) and the second one, which is attached to the hoses walls of the dental unit, forming a biofilm. Due to stagnation of oral fluids are aspirated during the procedure. The biofilm will be continuously polluting the hoses from the unit and expelling microorganisms to the patient’s oral cavity where they generate aerosols that can contaminate the environment, surfaces, instruments and health personnel, which is a public health risk. In Colombia there are not official reports or data to control this public health problem, so the risk of bacterial contamination and infection are still latent today. - Assessing Iron Functional Status in High-Performance Sports Leagues and Skating Waterpolo Cali, Colombia

In the present work we studied the erythropoietic response to chronic phlebotomy-induced anemia and changes in cellular and systemic body iron distribution. Female mice (CF1 strain, n =32) were divided into control and experimental groups, following a paired experimental design. Iron distribution in spleen and liver during chronic phlebotomy was assessed by morphological studies and erythropoietic activity by hematological studies. Statistical differences were determined by Student test. The significance level was set at p - Biocontrol Effect of Bacillus Spp, Against Fusarium sp., Under Greenhouse Conditions in Thyme Plants ('Thymus Vulgaris l'.)

The development of different strategies different to agrochemicals in agriculture has opened new possibilities for research with microbes as biological control alternative, given its biochemical abilities and ease of use for crop protection. The aim of this study was to establish the biocontrol effect of Bacillus spp., against Fusarium sp., under greenhouse conditions in thyme. The methodology included isolation of possible pathogen causing vascular wilt and yield losses, its identification by taxonomic keys, evidence of direct antagonism plate where the radius of colony growth was evaluated, percentage of inhibition and growth rate, tests undergreenhouse conditions in thyme plants assessed every 5 days for 1 month by severity scale. Finally, we confirmed the presence of the pathogen in a second isolation in order to confirm Koch’s postulates. The results showed that the cause of the disease was the fungi Fusarium pseudonygamai . Antagonism test showed that treatment with Bacillus UCMC (B2) had the best biocontrol effect in vitro and under greenhouse conditions against Fusarium sp, giving its highest percentages of inhibition, longer roots, increased dry weight and decrease or absence of disease symptoms. It was concluded that among the microorganisms under study, Bacillus UCMC (B2) had the best potential biocontrol under greenhouse conditions against Fusarium sp in thyme plants. - Frequency of Candida sp in the oral cavity of diabetics patients of Medellín.

Objective: To determine the frequency of Candida species isolates from oral cavities of diabetic patients and to evaluate sensitivity to antimycotic drugs. Material and Methods: Oral cavity samples were collected from patients included in this study after accepting the informed consent. The samples were cultured in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and in Chromogenic Candida Agar. Api 20 C AUX and growth at 45º C in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar were used to identify Candidaspecies and ATB fungus test was used to evaluate the sensitivity to Fluconazole, Voriconazole and Itraconazole. Results: 200 samples were obtained from the oral cavity of diabetic patients. 96 Candida isolates were obtained: C. albicans (95.4%), C. guillermondii (2.3%)and C. parapsilosis (2.3%). Antimycotic assays revealed the following sensitivity: 97% against Fluconazol 97% and 93% against Voriconazol andItraconazol. Conclusions: C.albicanswas the most isolated species in diabetic patients. Taking into account that these patients are susceptible to acquire infections to different Candida species, it is important to identify which is the infecting species and determine its sensitivity profile. - Amniocentesis Early Assessment in an Institution of Prenatal Diagnosis in Brazil
