  • Integration of quality, environmental and occupational safety and health management systems in a public entity of the national order of the treasury sector
    In organizations, there is an increasing interest in implementing integrated management systems based on ISO standards; one of the reasons is because it optimizes activities and therefore reduces efforts, times and costs, allowing the organization to be competitive and sustainable in national and international businesses. However, the integration of management systems is a complex task and, according to the nature of each organization, the appropriate strategy must be defined. The purpose of this article is to propose a methodology to integrate quality management system (QMS), environmental management system (EMS) and occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) in an entity of national order of the Treasury Sector. To this end, a diagnosis was made of the current status of implementation of the QMS, the EMS and the OHSMS in the studied entity, the specific requirements of each ISO standard and the applicable legislation were analyzed, standard methodologies for the integration of management systems were identified, the methodology to be implemented in the studied entity was defined and validation instruments of the proposed methodology were applied (experts’ opinion, focus group with process leaders and application in one element of the high-level structure). The established integration methodology follows the high-level structure of the ISO standards and contemplates the integration of elements such as: Context of the organization, Leadership, Planning, Support, Operations, Performance Assessment, and Improvement. According to the validation with experts and actors, the methodology is applicable to the organization and favors the efficient use of resources and eliminates the duplicity of processes.
  • Methodology of statistical correlation of an integrated quality management system in the health sector
    Considering that Health Providing Institutions currently want to be competitive and have as challenge the optimization of their management, taking into account the complexity of their processes, organizational structures, among other aspects, it is important that they adopt tools that allow them to innovate in their organizational management, by integrating and guiding with these the results already achieved towards higher quality standards such as those offered by health accreditation. In this sense, a research was developed that sought to combine statistical techniques to establish correlations between the requirements of two management models, making an exploratory analysis of regulatory requirements, calculating the level of correlation with Pearson’s Chi Square and Cramer’s V Index, the reliability of the results with Cronbach’s Alpha, and the estimation of confidence intervals with t test of Student. From the analysis of the results of these tests, the relationships, synergies, convergences and complementarities between the management systems and their content validity were established, providing greater objectivity to the knowledge of management sciences and explaining the variables associated with phenomena inherent to the integration of regulatory requirements in the health sector and management systems.
  • Aspects that affect talent management in the construction sector in Colombia

    The purpose of this paper is to describe the main problems related to talent management of works that exist in the different construction works in Colombia, for which a research instrument (survey) was applied to professional experts in personnel management in civil works and constructions located in different parts of the national territory. This study was carried out in 2016 thanks to the support of students of a Civil Works Management Technology offered virtually by a public university of Colombia. The importance of the work focuses on exposing the main aspects that the construction company must take into account in order to increase levels of quality of life and well-being of workers in the construction sector with the purpose of increasing productivity levels. As a result of the study, some aspects that are subject to improvement were found. Finally, suggestions are made that may serve construction personnel leaders.
  • Changes in the management of hotel SMEs in Bogotá: a management challenge for their internationalization
    By knowing the reality of small and medium enterprises of the hotel sector in the city of Bogotá and the contribution of other research conducted by academics from universities such as Externado de Colombia, EAFIT and national and foreign academics, it was possible to identify the main problems that afflict this type of enterprises, among which is highlighted: the lack of leadership of their owners and/or managers, reduced projection in the short or medium term, that is reflected in traditional administrative processes of each of the areas, or even lack of clarity in their operation, to the point that many of these companies do not operate with their own strategic plan, in line with their development prospects. The objective of this article is to propose improvements in the management of small and medium-sized tourism companies of the hotel sector in Bogotá. A field study was carried out, with online and physical surveys to 71 hotels, of 245 hotel SMEs defined by the simple probabilistic method. It is concluded that a company interested in expanding to international markets seeks to optimize resources, reduce costs and improve productivity through its business management. The hotel SMEs become the basis so that the companies under study focus their management from competitive development and continuous improvement.
  • Operational implementation of an intervention model to improve organizational performance

    The failure of MSMEs in Mexico is one of the highest in the world and despite the fact that the main causes of these failures have been identified and categorized: problems to sell, produce and operate, control of operations, planning and management, it has not been possible to reverse them, proof of this is their high death rate. It is known that properly diagnosing the problem and incorporating various administrative and operational elements to the organization and implementing short, medium and long term strategies, can improve organizational performance in SMEs and thus decrease the failure rate. The purpose of this article is to propose a model of operational implementation parallel to that applied by a consulting team to a group of seven radio broadcasters in Mexico (that achieved improvement of organizational performance), which integrates the administrative and operational elements that counteract the main causes of failure by improving organizational performance, comprised by financial performance and operational performance. The research used a mixed model with concurrent design through a descriptive and explanatory case study. The importance of the operational model of implementation is to facilitate their execution by members of the organizations without requiring a team of experts to achieve it
  • Characterization of management system auditors belonging to certification bodies in Chile

    In the current globalized market, companies must permanently improve their competitiveness and sustainability, such as the implementation and certification of management systems. Certification bodies have and hire auditors according to established requirements and who add value to the organizations they audit. However, this does not ensure that auditors comply with all the guidelines of an audit process to a management system, among multiple variables. The object of this article is to describe the competence profiles of the auditors of certification bodies. A study was carried out with a quantitative approach and a descriptive design of the relevant variables that define the competences of the auditors who perform the third-party audits to management systems. 20 auditors participated who have worked in important certification bodies in Chile. Different profiles of management system auditors were obtained based on their education, experience and training. It is concluded that there is a progression of the professional development of the auditors, starting with implementations and internal audit of management systems, later as consultants in implementations, audits and reporting. And as a final step, the performance as auditors of certification bodies and course rapporteurs.
  • The relationship between perceived organizational support and the quality of life related to work, with the implementation of a model of well-being in the organization

    With the changes in the production systems, workers see their working conditions and their feel of the subjective well-being affected, hence there is currently a great interest in improving the conditions for quality of life at work. The aim of this study is to perform an analysis of the multivariate relationship between perceived organizational support and some dimensions of quality of life related to work, with subjective wellbeing and, at the same time, relevant constructs derived from positive organizational psychology, such as work commitment and a sense of coherence. A sample of 1255 workers from different companies was examined in two groups, one with 736 workers (59%) who participated in a well-being program and another group with 519 workers (41%) who did not participate in the well-being program of the same companies. The model of structural equations presented in this study shows how the factors of the quality of life related to work and perceived organizational support predict, indirectly, subjective well-being. It is concluded that this study contributes to the development of literature on work commitment and organizational support theory.
  • Integrated management system for risk monitoring beyond ISO
    Integrated management systems are an increasingly accepted option in organizations, ISO systems with the high-level structure SL that have as one of their conceptual pillars risk management and preventive activity facilitate integrating the Quality, Environment, Safety and Health, Physical Security and Disasters systems; for the development of the integration, it is advisable to have the following sequence: 1. Initial Audit, 2. Planning, 3. Risks Identification and Evaluation, 4. Comprehensive Risk Monitoring System. The objective of this study was to integrate management systems with the use of a computing tool, the computerized system was implemented in three large organizations as an experimental pilot project with a duration of 4 months, with which personnel previously assigned to these processes decreased by 70%, compliance with technical legal requirements improved by 35%; this allows to conclude that being a user-friendly technological tool, it was possible to integrate all the management systems and allowed to optimize existing resources in the organizations.

    The constant need of organizations to develop their operations with competitiveness, effectiveness and efficiency has marked the need to think and manage them with an integrated system, however, a company faces many challenges when simultaneously operating the requirements of several systems, and it is here where the literature does not offer more help or technical information. In this sense, this article makes a systematic review of the year 2015 publications, in order to make an approach to the success factors, restrictions, methods and characteristics of an integrated management system. It is concluded that, from an operational perspective, the integration of management systems lies in the combination and alignment of all internal management practices in a single system, i.e., in a global management system. It would be understood that integration exists if the 14 conditions listed in the conclusions of this research are met.
  • Knowledge management and its contribution to competitiveness in organizations: systematic review of literature
    The global dynamics of markets has generated specific needs for organizations to be sustainable over time, since turbulence and change are permanent. This scenario has made possible to identify that not only technological update becomes a challenge for the organizational strategy, but the value knowledge has is insurmountable and its direction and control are and will be a priority in all the organizations of all the productive and services sectors, especially in SMEs, who contribute significantly to the global economy. For this reason, this systematic review of literature, of the last 10 years, aims to determine the incursion of knowledge management as a competitive advantage that ensures organizational subsistence in a changing internal and external environment. It identifies the importance and reception the SMEs have had and in specific sectors of the economy, such as: oil, education (higher education), solidarity (third sector), manufacturing and banking, from which, it was possible to determine the dimensions in which knowledge management is emphasized

    This article shows a brief perspective on the timeline between knowledge management and what is now known as Business Intelligence, where information technologies have a leading role in the establishment of a new competitive advantage in organizations, a strategy that will allow them to reflect their competitiveness in a changing environment. The methodology used to consider the opinions expressed was the search for articles on knowledge management and Business Intelligence with an approach of management based on the company’s competitiveness in peer-reviewed sources such as Google Scholar, Scielo, EBSCO and Elsevier. Some reflections are presented on the implications that knowledge management has as an inherent part of organizations of the post-industrial era and with a strong need to respond to the challenges demanded by today’s society. This new way of doing business dictates significant changes to be made in institutions; always starting with their key element: their human talent.
