RESUMEN La asincronía propia del orden impuesto por el capitalismo y el precoz proceso de cosmopolitismo e individualización, ha permitido la manifestación de ciertos rasgos de modernización de la literatura desde la segunda mitad del siglo XIX.  En este sentido, en María la crisis de la representación propia del romanticismo europeo y la ruptura del artista con la sociedad, y en De sobremesa la especialización del oficio del escritor, diferenciándola del compromiso político del intelectual, son sus manifestaciones más importantes. ABSTRACT The asynchrony, proper of the order imposed by capitalism and the early process of cosmopolitism and individualization, has allowed the expression of certain features of modernization of literature since the second half of the nineteenth century. In this regard, both in María, the crisis of the representation of the European Romanticism and the rupture of the artist with his society and, in De sobremesa, the specialization in the art of the writer as opposed to the political commitment of the intellectuals are the most important manifestations of the modernization of literature.
