This document examines the relationship between the collective emotions expressed by young people in Colombia at various times and their trust in the country’s institutions. An aggregated measure of institutional trust is constructed using the Multiple Correspondence Analysis technique. Subsequently, the relationship and impact of emotions on institutional trust are estimated through the fitting of a model adjusted to the Generalized Beta Type 1 density function. The emotions that generate the most social mobilization are anger, sadness, and surprise, with the latter having differential effects depending on age and levels of institutional trust. No differences in perceptions towards institutions were found based on the gender of the respondents. Issues are dynamic and may vary according to predominant emotions. Contrary to expectations, joy does not have a positive effect on institutional trust. Additionally, there is no evidence of emotional cascades, despite dynamic changes in collective emotions during each conjunctural process.
