El presente estudio evaluó la eficacia de un programa de prevención multidimensional aplicado a un grupo de niños (n= 119) matriculados desde el primero al quinto año de educación primaria de la escuela Olaya Herrera del municipio de Angelópolis, Colombia. Los resultados se compararon con los obtenidos en 98 niños de la escuela Santa Rita del mismo municipio quienes no fueron cubiertos por el programa. Se aplicaron los fndices COPs, ceo-s y MEDI-MED. Los datos se analizaron con pruebas t-student y chi-cuadrado. El impacto del programa fue positivo tanto al evaluarlo con los índices tradicionales como con el MEDI-MED, con diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre las medidas de encia y mente de ambas escuelas. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a multidimensional promotion and prevention program in a population of elementary school-aged children between first and fifth grade. One hundred and nineteen children from the Escuela Olaya Herrera in Angelopolis. Colombia who participated in the program were compared with a control group of 98 children from the Escuela Santa Rita in the same location. The Program was primarily focused on oral health education and was directed to students, parents and teachers. DMF and dmf-s scores, assessment of white spot lesions and the MEDI-MED motivational index were used in order to determine the success of the program. Results indicated that the impact of the program was positive and significant statistical differences were evident when MED-MEDI scores were compared between both groups. No significant statistical differences were observed however when DMF and dmf-s scores were evaluated.
