El análisis de la secuencia primaria de un antígeno inmunodominante de Dirofilaria immitis (DiT33) permitió identificar un dominio tipo mucina en el segmento carboxilo-tenninal de la proteína. Los residuos de serina y treonina en este segmento permite el anclaje por puentes del tipo O de varios glicanos (T -fil) similares al antígeno T (Thomsen-Friedenreich) que se expresa en adenocarcinomas. El glicano T -fil se expresa ampliamente en diversos estados de diferenciación de D. immitis y posiblemente representa el principal glicano usado por las filarias para formar mucinas. ABSTRACT The aminoacid sequence of the irnmunodominant Dirofilaria immitis antigen DiT33, reveals a mucin-type domain in the carboxitenninal segment of the protein. The serine and threonine residues in this segment allow the linkage of several O-type glycans (T -fil) that are similar to the adenocarcinoma asociated T antigen (Thomsen-Friedenreich). T-fil is expressed in different larval stages of D. immitis and may represent the main glycan used by the parasite to prepare mucins.
