Bajo el actual régimen de seguridad social existente en Colombia, las instituciones prestadoras de servicios de salud, se han visto en la necesidad de contar para su adecuado funcionamiento y lograr ser competitivos ; con un sistema de costos que les permita la toma de decisiones con el fin de llevar a los usuarios servicios en términos de efectividad, eficiencia y eficacia. Dado que en el área de salud de la Policía Nacional, Departamento del Quindio aún no se ha implementado este sistema, se realizó durante el año de 1996 un estudio de todas las actividades relacionadas con la prestación de los servicios de salud y los gastos que ello generó. Con base en la información obtenida se detectaron las dificultades y fallas que se vienen presentando en el manejo de los recursos, la información entre otros, Pudiéndose demostrar así, la importancia de la aplicación de un sistema de costos dentro de la institución y es así como nuestro trabajo plantea los pasos necesarios para su aplicación. ABSTRACT Under the current regimen of Social Security existent in Colombia, the institutions lenders of health services, they have seen in the necessity of counting for their adequate operation and succeed in being competitive ; with a system of costs that permits them the taking of decisions with the end of carrying their users services in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and efficacy. Given that in the area of health of the National Polician in Departament of the Quindio still there is not been diligenced this system, it was carried out a study of all the activities relatiened with the to pay of health lending services and the expenses it generated during the year of 1996. Based an opinion on the gotten information the difficulties were detected and fails that they come back introducing in the handling of the resources, the information between anothers it could be demostrated the importance of the application of a system of costs into the institution so and it is as well as our work expounds the necessary passes for their application.
