Due to extensive use of acaricides and insecticides in livestook industrie it has been developed a resistance phenomenom that generate the necesity to improve alternative methods for outter parasities control on cattle. Use of entomopathogenic fungus are available strategie. It has been executed checking labors about possible biocontrol effects of several kinds of fungus but these tests are focused on Boophilus microplus. This is a first step in the development of an in vitro methodology to evaluate a biological control starting from second instar larvaes of Stomoxys calcitrans with the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhiziumanisopliae. Four stocks were evaluated: the first stock was applied with a concentration of 1x102conidia/ml, 1x104 conidia/ml, 1x106 conidia/ml and 1x108 conidia/ml of M.anisopliae. They were maintained under laboratory conditions at 23 °C and 80% relative humidity. Three isolation were applied with a concentration of 1x107 conidia/mlof M. anisopliae. They were maintained under laboratory conditions at 18 °C and 63% relative humidity. The total mortality produced by each tack was checked. None of the four stoks showed activity on the larvaes. - Diseño y construcción de un separador autoestático manos libres para cirugías de cavidad abdominal y pélvica de pequeños animales

Because accuracy of cytology as definitive test to determine the period of ovulation in canine females (dogs) it is controversial, it makes necessary to correlate typical characteristics of ovulation, as plasmatic levels of progesterone and cytogical changes to ensure optimus time of ovulation. Progesterone levels measures were carried out by ELISA test, to conclude if superficial cells percent found in vaginal cytology, is related with the hormonal levels during ovulation. Cytologic and serum samples of 30 healthy female dogs were collected every 48 hours. The datas were analysed by correlation test. When progesterone levels were below 10 ng/ml, the percentage of superficial cells was 72 +/- 1,72%, while the percentage of in flake, queratinizadas, intermediate cellular types were 13 +/- 3,12%, 84 +/- 1,14% and 16 +/- 2,62% respectively. When progestrone levels were between 10 to 20 ng/ml, the percentages of superficial cells was 68 +/- 2,08%, while in flake, queratinizadas, and intermediate cellular types were 11 +/- 3,19%, 80 +/- 1,9% and 21 +/- 3,63% respectively. Finally, within highest ranges (>20 ng/ml), the percentages of superficial cells was 57 +/- 3,52%, while in flake, queratinizadas and intermediate cells were 10 +/- 1,35%, 64+/- 2,75% and 35 +/- 3,31% respectively. - Estudio del comportamiento de las ondas precordiales en caninos gerontes criollos y Poodles

As aging goes on, adaptive capability decreases, the individuals become more susceptible to a lot of pathologies, mainly those that involve cardiovascular system, being the electrocardiographical test an essential diagnostic tool. Precordial derivatives are used to confirm the data obtained from other derivatives like cardiac enlargement, congenital heart defects, cardiac blocks or attacks, or to make more evident the P wave, helping to find the arrhythmias diagnosis. In human beings, precordial derivatives are very important to diagnose of diseases, because their normal values are already standardized, however, in pet practice, those values are not determined yet. The aim of this work was to establish electrocardiograph precordial derivatives (V2, V4, V5, V6) in canines older that 9 years old clinically health (n = 60). - Hematología y química sérica en hembras quelonios (Trachemys scripta callirostris) en la ribera del río Lebrija, Puerto Wilches (Santander) Parte I

The Trachemys scripta callirostris this classified in the red book (in extinction danger) like a vulnerable species, this is largely due to the inadequate use that has been given to the ecosystem and the irrational and illegal exploitation that the native man of these regions carries out daily, for this reason the interest it arises to look for the form of identifying the techniques of handling of the Tortoises. That it allows to preserve this species. The idea is born of carrying out a study to determine the parameters basic hematologics, and biochemical values (glycemia, uric acid, GPT, GOT, total protein, albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol) like a tool for the diagnosis of different pathologies and like bibliographical reference for the linked personnel of an or another form with the wild fauna. This work was conducted in the Lebrija River, at the municipaly of Puerto Wilches-Santander (Colombia). Was taken 200 turtles – icoteas (Trachemys scripta callirostris), that were distributed in four (4) groups; Its weight ranged from 800 to 2000 grams. 3 ml of blood was collected from each animal (female) by puncture the occipital plexus. Any samples that had obvious hemolysis or clots formation were not used. Plasma biochemical values were determined by use of aspectrophotometric chemistry analyzer. These samples were processed in the laboratory of the Centro Médico Quirúrgico Veterinario of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia. - Hepatozoon Canis en Colombia

The geographical position of Colombia, their climatic conditions make it ideal as a biological niche to a great quantity of agents including the parasitic ones, which have been reported in neighboring countries. This case reports the discovery in canine of the parasite hepatozoon. The Hepatozoon canis was reported first in the India in 1905, and from then on it has been shown to infect dogs in the entire world (Macintire, 1999). The hepatozoonosis is an illness generated by an apicomplexo protozoan blood parasite investigated for the first time in Texas (EE.UU) in 1978 where gametocytes of Hepatozoon was identified in neutrophils circulating of 3 dogs. (Craig et al. 1978). The Hepatozoonosis is an illness transmitted by the Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks whose distribution is endemic in States united in the states of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana; also Brazil, Europe (mediterranean region) Asia ( Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and Middle East) and África. - Hipertensión arterial pulmonar

The cardiovascular system is important for the physiologic dynamics of biochemical processes as those carried out at lung level. The pathological changes associated to the arterial pressure have been studied and researched in different animal species including the humans. In many cases biomodels have been manipulated to obtain outstanding information regarding the physiopathologic and molecular mechanisms that bear the development of hypertensive states considering the cellular groups that participate of these events. The present document make a review on the possible mechanisms involved in the changes of the arterial pressure (hypertensive states) and its reference values considering diverse animal species. - Identificación histológica del Helicobacter Sp. en la mucosa gástrica canina en Bucaramanga

The gender of gastric Helicobacter. has been one of the most studied in the last time due to its implication in public health, after being discovered in 1979 by the pathologist Robin Warren, who associated it with the chronic gastritis. Research was carried out at the zoonoses center of the Health Secretary from Bucaramanga city together with the pathology department of the Industrial Santander University. The sample selected was 25 canines designated to Euthanasia regardless of: sex, physical condition. The samples were attained from the stomach, more specifically from the antrum and body. The macroscopic result was; 2 (8%) samples with gastric hypersecretion, 2 (8%) samples with gastric content, and 3 (12%) with thickening of the stomach pleats. The histological identification of the bacteria in a microscopic level, was made by means of a dyeing method using Hematoxiline and.Eosine whose result was: all samples positive to the presence of bacilar bacterias compatible with helicobacter sp. and evidence of injuries such as: vasodilatation in 88% of the samples, 4% polymorphonuclears , lymphocytes in 64% of the samples, the lymphoid accumulated in 16% samples, metaplasia in the gastric gland in 4% and macrophages in 28% of the samples with collagen increase in 32% of the samples. Then, ten samples were submitted to the hstopathological method of the Warthin-Starry dyeing and the result was all samples 100% positive to Helicobacter sp, It was established, that Helicobacter sp is a current inhabitant of the gastric canine flora and this bacteria doesn’t produce macroscopic damages in the canine gastric mucous membrane; at least in the canines that pass their lives in the public streets. These animals could be the principal reserve of this bacteria as a source of infection by either oral or fecal via that will serve for future research about transmissibility, having even an important effect in public health. - Procedimiento alternativo para premedicación y anestesia de primates (no humanos). Every time is more frequent the presence of wild fauna in veterinary centers. Lack of studies about medical aproach and the poor availability of research reports in this species, imply the necesity to propose empiric protocols, including anesthetics. A primate (Cebus albifrons) with hind limb fracture, was exposed to surgical management of anesthetics including acerpomacine maleate, morphine hydrochlorate and ketamina hydrochlorate as well as halotane at maintenance doses according to literature recommendations to other species. No undesirable effects were observed during surgical or post-surgical procedure. - Y seguimos creciendo…
